Vic: Loggers' blockade of Great Ocean Road cancelled

MELBOURNE, Jan 11 AAP - A blockade of Victoria's Great Ocean Road, scheduled for thisevening, has been called off after loggers feared negative publicity would damage theircause.

Loggers angry about the state government plans to phase out logging in the Otways hadwarned they would blockade the Great Ocean Road near the ocean resort town of Lorne, south-westof Melbourne, between 4.30pm and 5pm (AEDT) today.

The protest threatened to block swimmers and spectators trying to leave Lorne afterthe world's biggest open-water swimming race, the Lorne Pier to Pub, held this afternoon.
