NSW: Serious six vehicle collission near Tamworth
SYDNEY, April 22 AAP - Two people were in a critical condition after a six vehicle
collision south of Tamworth in north-west New South Wales this afternoon.
Four cars, a truck and a motorcycle crashed near the Willow Tree truck stop on the
New England highway just after 2.30pm (AEST) an ambulance spokeswoman said.
Two people remained trapped for about an hour before one was flown to John Hunter hospital,
Newcastle, with spinal injuries and in a critical condition.
A female with serious head injuries taken to North Tamworth Hospital was also in a
critical condition, the spokeswoman said.
Four other people had minor injuries. One was flown to John Hunter hospital, Newcastle,
and the other three taken to nearby Quirindi hospital.
One lane of the highway remains closed and there are some traffic delays although cars
are able to travel in both directions, police said.
